The Conversation: Yasmina Prosser
Yasmina Prosser is a twenty-something, Virginia Beach local. She has been happily married to the love of her life since 2013. Her and her husband are looking forward to growing their little family in the future. At 19 years old, Yasmina made the decision to follow Christ in her bedroom after reading the Bible over the span of several weeks. The moment Yasmina accepted Christ into her life, she experienced God in a supernatural way. She went on a journey to discover she love for writing that led her to launch The She Laughs Project. Yasmina’s heart is to see women surrender every area of their life to Christ by understanding who He is and who they are in Him. She wants to help women deny the lies of the enemy and accept the truths found in Christ. Most of all, she wants to help women laugh in the face of the enemy because they understand the authority given to them as daughters of the Most High King.
WHAT DOES EVERYDAY LIFE LOOK LIKE FOR YASMINA?
In this season everyday life is looking like a lot of reading, writing, resting, praying, and spending time with my husband and puppy! I try to throw some coffee dates with girlfriends in there too :)
WHAT DID THE PATH LOOK LIKE THAT LEAD YOU TO LAUNCH THE SHE LAUGHS PROJECT? DID THE IDEA JUST POP INTO YOUR HEAD ONE DAY TO START SOMETHING LIKE THIS?
Before The She Laughs Project came to life I had finally decided to step out in starting a personal blog. This is a huge and scary decision for me but one I knew I was supposed to do. I was so afraid of what people would think and say that I didn’t step out in my writing for years. Once I decided to step through that fear and start my blog God started opening up new things in me. Then one day I was sitting on my couch during my quiet time and read Proverbs 31:25. It almost felt like I was reading it for the first time. When I read the words “She laughs without fear of the future” NLT I just knew in my heart I was supposed to do something with the words “She Laughs.” Shortly after that I discovered my blog was not just supposed to be a personal blog, but a community. That is when The She Laughs Project was birthed!
WHAT'S BEEN SOME CHALLENGES YOU'VE FACED SO FAR, SINCE LAUNCHING THE SHE LAUGHS PROJECT?
Ha! I wish I could say all the things I feared would happen when I finally stepped out didn’t happen but sadly some of those fears became reality. I am learning that not everyone will always understand and cheer on the God dreams in your heart and that’s OK! It’s a moment when you have to decide who you will live for and follow; the direction and voice of God or people? I have grown exponentially in my relationship with the Lord as I have continued to listen, trust and follow Him.
BEING A LEADER OF A GROWING COMMUNITY, WHAT ARE SOME KEYS THAT HAVE HELPED YOU GROW AND KEEP YOUR COMMUNITY ALIVE?
A lesson I am continuing to learn is always keep the “why” of what you are doing at the front of everything we do. When we get caught up in the “how” and the “what” we risk losing the impact and depth of the “why” of what we do! Simply said, “keep the main thing, the main thing!”
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO IS ABOUT TO TAKE A BIG LEAP AND LAUNCH THEIR PASSION PROJECT?
I would say to that person, stay true to yourself and the direction God is taking you. Don’t let yourself get caught up on the pressures of social media to keep up and look and be a certain way. Do you boo boo. If I could go back to the beginning I would have cared less about numbers and growth and cared more about depth and individuals.
LIVING FULLY ALIVE, WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE FOR YOU PERSONALLY?
To me, living fully alive means living fully present and engaged in my relationship with the Lord, myself and with those whom are near and dear to me (husband, family and close friends).
WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR, WHAT DO YOU SEE?
Sometimes everyday can feel different when I look in the mirror but I would say more often than not these days when I look in the mirror I see myself as a strong, beautiful and brave daughter of God. I’m learning to see myself in my true identity- a daughter of the King; royalty.
WHO HAS REALLY INSPIRED AND ENCOURAGED YOU ALONG THE WAY IN YOUR LIFE AND WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL THEM?
There is this a mentor in my life that has always felt like another mother to me. Over the last 8 years she has walked through some of the darkest places with me always shining the light of truth and pointing me in the right direction. She has played a huge role in who I am today. There are no words to adequately describe the gratitude and the life changing impact she has had in my life.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR YASMINA? ANY NEW PROJECTS LAUNCHING OR FUN VACATIONS HAPPENING SOON FOR YOU?
This year I am really focusing on strengthening our she laughs team and ambassador program. Our next biggest project will be developing and releasing resources to help empower women in their walks with the Lord, i.e. devotionals, studies, journals! SO EXCITED! No upcoming trips YET although I would love to go to Israel this year :)
