Create The Life You Love

What I love most about what I do – is that I get to use my pain to serve the world. But life wasn’t always this way for me. Growing up as a young girl, for many years, I couldn’t see past my pain. I was raised in an extremely abusive household; mentally, emotionally, sexually and physically. I often prayed and asked God to somehow save me-to get me out so that He could use me. To be honest, at the time, I barely knew what that meant or what it would look like. But what I did know, was that I wasn’t born to live in that misery forever. I knew that I was born for greatness and that one day I’d be free to walk out in freedom.

Today, I am a Motivational Speaker, a Transformational Life Coach, an Author and founder of the The D.e.v.a In You Group; a self development and leadership company for women and girls. I have discovered my purpose ON purpose. My job and my passion is to empower women and girls to believe so that they can achieve. Because faith the size of a mustard seed is all you really need.

I realized after writing and publishing my memoir, If You Played In My Playground, that sharing my story of abuse and the toxic choices I made, was extremely liberating and truly set me on a journey of self discovery and acceptance. Not until then could I begin the repair work on my spirit for the sexual abuse and damage done to me as a young girl.

I realized that all those years, I had been blaming myself. What I know for sure was that holding the shame was the greatest burden of all. That even more than the betrayal, is what had kept me living a lie for more than 25 years of my life. Shame crippled me from the very potential I had inside of me to be great.

What I learned is that when you have nothing to be ashamed of, when you’re living in your truth, when you know who you are, the life you desire and what you stand for, you stand in insight. Wisdom. Strength. Courage and Light. You stand free in peace.

For so many years, all I focused on was getting to the next level. I never took a step back to enjoy the view or my growth. In December 2011, I survived emergency brain surgery. A procedure that nearly took my life and scared me to life! Living in the fast lane, which I did for many years, you end up speeding through, just moving to the next thing, doing all you can do so that you really don’t have time to think about what’s really going on. Inside.

Recreating a life you love reminds me of climbing a mountain. You must be determined to make it to the top. Otherwise, every slip and fall will give you an excuse to turn around and give up. Also, the higher you climb, the thicker the weeds. But just forget about how far away the top is. Embrace the dips and the valley’s. Take one step at a time. Breathe in. Breath out. Just be.

I don’t believe in accidents and I know for sure that everything happens to help us live. And for this reason, I am here with you today. To empower and encourage you to not only dream big but to LIVE big!

I hope you’re reading these words and thinking about your own life and about how you, too, can manage with more attention to things of purpose ON purpose. Because with all that I know for sure, it makes no difference with how high you reach...if there is no pleasure in the climb.

I wasn’t kidding when I called this column Create the Life You Love- a woman’s guide to the great adventure that is your life. Wherever your desires take you, I hope this column will be your companion.

In health and With Love,
Elizabeth
